NIGER: Anklagad för terrorism

Moussa Tchangari har jobbat för mänskliga rättigheter i Niger sedan 1990-talet. Han leder rättighetsorganisationen Citizens’ Alternative Spaces. I december 2024 greps han och åtalades för att förespråka terrorism och för ”kriminellt samröre med terrorism”. I januari i år kom nya anklagelser och Moussa Tchangari flyttades till ett fängelse 18 mil från huvudstaden.

Dear General Abdourahamane Tiani, I am writing to express concern about the arbitrary detention of human rights defender Moussa Tchangari, secretary general of the civil society organization, ‘Citizens’ Alternative Spaces’. Three weeks before his arrest, on 12 November 2024, Moussa Tchangari criticized the decision by Niger’s interior minister to withdraw the licenses of two humanitarian nongovernmental organizations, as well as the establishment by the authorities of a terrorism database. I urge you and the authorities to ensure that Moussa Tchangari is immediately released as he is being detained solely for the peaceful exercise of his human rights, and all charges against him are dropped.

IRAN: Dömd till döden

Kurdiska Pakhshan Azizi riskerar omedelbar avrättning. Azizi greps 2023 och dömdes på falska anklagelser till döden i Teheran i juli 2024. Trots sitt fredliga arbete med humanitärt bistånd till kvinnor och barn anklagas hon för ”väpnat uppror mot staten”. Hon hålls i Evinfängelset och har utsatts för grova övergrepp och tortyr. I januari 2025 fastställde Högsta domstolen dödsdomen.

I urge you to immediately halt any plans to execute Pakhshan Azizi, quash her conviction and death sentence, and release her immediately and unconditionally, as she is held solely for her peaceful humanitarian work and human rights activism. Pending her release, provide her with adequate healthcare and regular access to family and lawyers; protect her from further torture and other ill-treatment; and order an independent investigation into her torture allegations. Also, immediately establish an official moratorium on executions.

AFGHANISTAN: Journalist fängslad

I oktober 2024 greps den 27-åriga journalisten Mahdi Ansari i Afghanistan. Han har dömts till ett och ett halvt års fängelse, anklagad för att ha spridit propaganda genom sitt journalistiska arbete och via Facebook-inlägg. Under sin tid i fängelse har Mahdi Ansari utsatts för misshandel och isolerats. Hans mentala hälsa har försämrats och han har nekats regelbundna familjebesök.

On 1 January 2025, Mahdi Ansari was unfairly tried at the Taliban court in Kabul, Mahdi Ansari’s detention and conviction is in clear violation of his rights to freedom of expression and fair trial guaranteed under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Afghanistan is a state party. I therefore urge you to: Immediately and unconditionally release Mahdi Ansari; Ensure that, until his release, he has access to healthcare, legal representation, and family visits; Stop the practices of arbitrary detention, torture and other ill-treatment.
